Privacy Notice to Norton Anti-Theft and Norton Mobile Security users

For users located in the EMEA region, Symantec Limited, in Ireland, is the Data Controller. This notice is provided to you because you have licensed Norton Anti-Theft or another Norton security product, such as Norton Mobile Security, which includes a location tracking feature and Sneak Peek, a picture taking feature that will be activated upon installation of your Norton product.

Information we collect and how we use it

The location functionality available on your device collects your location information once an hour when the device is in default mode ("Location"). You can change the collection frequency of the Location via the Norton Anti-Theft or the Norton Mobile Security website. The software client will also collect the Location every time you log-in to the website. At any given time the website displays the last two Locations reported. If you report that your device has been lost or stolen, the Location information is reported every five minutes and the website will display the last five locations. Symantec stores only the last ten Locations and automatically deletes the oldest Locations when they exceed this limit. You can view the reported Locations on the Norton Anti-Theft or Norton Mobile Security website. The Location is collected to help you establish a Location trail of the device both prior to and after its being reported lost or stolen.

In addition, if you report that your device has been lost or stolen, the Sneak Peek functionality of the software will collect pictures taken every 5 minutes by the device. The Location and the pictures will be transmitted to Symantec Corporation in the US, where they will be processed for the purpose of locating your device (the "Service"). If you log on to the Norton Anti-Theft or Norton Mobile Security website, you will be able to view the last 10 photos taken by the device. Norton products that include location tracking and Sneak Peek may collect other personal information. Sharing your information

Symantec does not sell, rent, lease, give away or disseminate your personal or Location information to any third party, except as necessary to provide the Service. Symantec may share the Location information of the device with Skyhook Wireless Inc., a third party service provider, who provides a portion of the Service. We do not share any personal information with Skyhook. Symantec is a global organization and we may store and process your information with affiliates located in other countries, including the US and other countries outside the EEA that may have less protective data protection laws than the country in which you are located. The collection, use, process and transfer by Symantec of your data will be carried out in accordance with best standards. For data collected in the European Economic Area (the "EEA"), Symantec has taken steps to ensure that the collected data, if transferred outside of the EEA, receives an adequate level of protection as required by the EEA/Swiss data protection legislations.

Collecting your Location is necessary to provide the Norton Anti-Theft service

Providing your data is not mandatory, but it is necessary to receive the Service. If you do not agree to the collection of the Locations of your device or the pictures taken by your device, you need to uninstall Norton Anti-Theft or Norton Mobile Security. If you do so, Symantec will be unable to provide the Service to you

Security of your information

Symantec has taken appropriate administrative, technical, physical and procedural security measures, consistent with international information practices, including encrypting your information, to protect your personal information. These measures include:

Physical safeguards, such as locked doors and file cabinets, controlled access to our facilities, and secure destruction of media containing personal data;
Technology safeguards, such as use of Symantec anti-virus and endpoint protection software, encryption, and monitoring of our systems and data centers to ensure compliance with our security policies, and in particular, credit card information is transmitted using secure socket layer (SSL) encryption;
Organizational safeguards, through training and awareness programs on security and privacy, to ensure employees understand the importance and means by which they must protect personal data, as well as through privacy policies and policy standards that govern how Symantec treats personal data.
Right to access and rectify your personal data

According to the laws of your country, you may have the right to access, free of charge, rectify and delete the data you have provided to us at any time by sending an email to or by contacting customer support at the number applicable for your country. You can find the number on the support page of the Norton website at However, there are exceptions to this right so that access may be denied where we consider that making the information available would reveal personal information about another person or where we are legally prevented from disclosing such information. If we refuse to provide you with access to your personal information, we will provide you with reasons for the refusal.
